The family during the late 1870's lived in the southern settlement of Germantown, an old coal reserve where a number of their country folk where residing. Most of these settlers were working on the main southern railway line from Gore to Clinton until it's completion on the 2nd of November 1877. Later Jacob moved to Dunedin sometime after the death of his wife Maria who died in May of 1881 and is buried at the Gore Cemetery.
