RIFLE SHOOTING

BRUCE v. KAITANGATA
The annual match between Bruce and Kaitangata Defence Rifle Clubs was fired at Milton on Saturday, under ideal weather conditions, and after a very closely-contested shoot, Bruce proved victorious by the narrow margin of one point. The teams were strongly represented and comprised 13 men a-side, three lowest counted out, and seven shots (sighters optional) were fired at 300 and 500 yards. For the winners Riflemen M. E. Paul and Jos. F. Halba topped the score with an aggregate of 62 points each, whilst Deputy-president W. Carson and Rifleman W. Johnson (64 each) headed the list for the visitors, the latter registering the creditable score of 34 at 500 yards. Rifleman Jno. Halba (Bruce), who shot with an unreliable rifle at the shorter range, borrowed another at the longer distance, and had the satisfaction of putting on a possible of 35.
It is pleasing to note the decided advancement made by the Bruce Club this year, and the good shooting shown by some of the new-comers, for after a series of reverses extending over a lenghty period, the members at last have had the satisfaction of securing victories in their last two contests, the former win being against Kiwi (Dunedin), at Milton, on Labor Day.
The visitors were hospitably treated by the home team, and at the conclusion of the match exchange of compliments were paid by Deputy-presidents T. Moir (Bruce) and W. Carson (Kaitangata), accompanied with cheers by the respective clubs. Scores:-
