The Waikaka Siding Quadrille Assembly wound up their season's dancing by holding an "extended night" on Friday evening. Despite the inclemency of the weather, there was an exceedingly large turn out, 80 couples being present. The dance was in every way a thoroughly enjoyable one, and those at the head of affairs are to be congratulated on the success attending their efforts. The music was supplied by Messrs Cruickshanks Bros., Mr. Mason acting as M.C. Mr. Thos. Thompson, Gore, supplied refreshments of an abundant and choice nature, and is rapidly making a name for himself as a caterer. During the evening step dances were given by Messrs F. Hoffman and Peart, and a song by Mr. Jas. Day. "The Mataura Ensign", 01 November 1898
