A brief meeting of the Gordon Town Board was held on Tuesday evening, there being present-Commissioners Simson (chairman) McGill, and Mansford.-A petition from the carters plying for hire in the town district was read, asking that the license fee should be reduced. The Board considered the matter, and resolved that if the Gore Town Board would reduce their fee the Gordon Board would have no objection to following suit.-Tenders from J. Hoffman and B. Rout for leases of sections in various parts of the town were declined, the prices offered being too low.-It was agreed that steps should be taken to recover the rate recently levied, the chairman dwelling strongly on the apathy of the ratepayers in coming forward with their amounts.-The following accounts were passed for payment: W. Henderson, drawing conditions of lease for town sections, £5s 5s; R. Brce, salary, £5; H. and J. Feldwick, 6s.-The Inspector reported that D. McCaskell had blocked up the boundary road near Mr. Reid's by fencing and ditching across it. Ordered that the obstruction be removed and the road placed in same state as formerly within 2 hours, otherwise legal proceeding to be taken. "The Mataura Ensign", 14 September 1883.
