We begin the family history around the 1770's, with the family of Joseph Piernicki & his wife Anna. Together they lived and raised their family in the village of Kladau (K³odawa), Danziger Höhe (Pruszcz Gdañski), West Prussia, (Poland). The family as we know it were: Franciscus (1776), Marianna (1777), Catharina (1779), Johann (1782), Andreas Joannis (1885) & Anna (1790).

Johann Piernicki, the son of Joseph and Anna married Elizabeth Lange of Kleschkau (Kleszczewko) on the 9th of July 1809 at the Roman Catholic Church in the Parish of Kladau. The couple moved east to the village of Bösendorf (Z³a Wie¶), just south east of Kladau where Johann & Elizabeth had most of their family being: Johann (1812-1882), Christine (1825), Jacob Mathias (1827), Friderich Wilhelm (1828), Magdalena (1830) & Marianna (1833). Due to lack of records, the children's births up to 1824 are unknown. From here the family were located back in the village of Kladau, with the birth of Anton Ludwig (1836-1914).

On the 16th of September 1860, in the Parish of Kladau, Anton married Anna Malecka (1836-1924), the daughter of Michael Malecki & Christina Witting. Anna Malecka had been previously living in the village of Lagschau in the Kladau Parish.

While living in the village of Bösendorf, Anton & Anna had their first child Franz Anton (1861-1919). Returning to Kladau they had the following children; Anton Lorenz (1863-1932) & Martha Cecilia (1865-1938).

The family then moved south to the village of Stenzlau (Stanis³awie) in the Parish of Liebschau (Lubiszewo Tczewskie), where they had the following children; Johan (1868-1925), Jozef August (1871-1872) & Valentin (1873).

The family left Hamburg, via Gdañsk, aboard the ship "Dallam Tower" on the 21st of December 1874 arriving at Port Chalmers, Otago, New Zealand on the 17th of February 1875. The Family aboard ship were Anton 38, Anna 38, Franz 13, Anton 11, Martha 9, Johan 6 & Valentin 1.

Some time later the family moved to Dunedin, residing in the suburb of Pine Hill, where Anton worked as a farmer. Here Anna's older sister Brigitte and her husband Philip Konkel were also residing. On the 3rd of May 1883, Anton purchased sections 32 & 34 of Block 11 in the North Harbour & Blueskin district. Anna Perniskie was naturalised as a New Zealand Citizen on the 6th of March 1901 & Anton was naturalised on the 26th of January 1904.

Anton died on the 2nd of February 1914 in Allanton & Annie died on the 12th of June 1924 in Dunedin. Both are buried at the Southern Cemetery in Dunedin. Grave
